The 9th Annual Pilot’s Picnic was held on July 15th 2017.
The event was hosted by Mervin and Eva Zinck at their lakeside hanger on New Germany Lake CCA2 in Nova Scotia.
Close to 400 people attended this free event that was sponsored by Mervin and Eva Zinck, The Bluenose Flying Club – COPA Flight 196, and BMI Ltd.There was lots to see as the weather cooperated and some 25 planes and choppers dropped in or flew by during the day.
There was a demonstration by two parachuters who elegantly landed on the beach at the New Germany Lake.
Special thanks go out to :-
*The Coastal Cruisers Car Club for providing a fine display of antique vehicles.
*Tyler Ernst and the South Shore RC Flying Club who kept the spectators amused with their static and aerial demonstrations.
*The Northfield Fire Department provided manpower and a rescue boat for the event.A team of volunteers had a mammoth job and cooked approx. 320 hamburgers, 220 hotdogs and 250 lb. of potatoes that were cut into what is locally known as “Curley Fries”. All of the food was graciously supplied by the sponsors and served free of charge to all visitors on the day.
Volunteers included members of the Bluenose Flying Club, generations of the Zinck Family and local residents.
The Dave Burbine band provided music that entertained the crowds during lunch.
In the afternoon there was a demonstration by the 413 Transport and Rescue Squadron of 14 Wing Greenwood. They flew in with the CH-149 Cormorant Helicopter, dropped a couple of Search and Rescue personnel in the lake and then hoisted them back into the helicopter. This was a crowd favorite.
We extend very special thanks to Mervin and Eva Zinck for hosting a great day spent with good friends, good music and good food, it was a perfect day!
